Klaipeda is surrounded by picturesque destinations such as Palanga, Kretinga or Neringa – a small city which is located in the middle of the Curonian Spit National park.
Neringa is a popular recreation place in the south of Klaipeda. It is famous for its nearby amazing nature which is characterised by the inimitable harmony of the sea, the lagoon, the forests and the dunes. Neringa, which is divided into four administrative units (Nida, Preila, Pervalka and Juodkrante) is located within the UNESCO World Heritage site – the Curonian Spit National park. Nida (the centre of Neringa) impresses by the well-known huge dunes of Parnidis.
Palanga is another beautiful resort town which is worth visiting. There is for instance a large oak bridge into the sea or many interesting museums such as the Amber Museum. This museum is located in the manor of count Feliksas Tiškevicius and famous for its park by which the palace is surrounded.
Kretinga is a picturesque old historic town founded in the 13th century. Visitors will not regret to have discovered the Kretinga Museum which is located in the palace of count Tiškevicius and covers a huge botanical garden.
Another interesting place to visit is Smiltyne. There is the Lithuanian Sea Museum famous for its dolphinarium.
