In the North-East of Germany is located the region of Vorpommern. Land by the sea - that is the correct translation of the original Slavic word "Vorpommern". There is no place in Germany where you find more coastlines and beaches like in Vorpommern. The Baltic islands of Rügen and Usedom with their beautiful seaside resorts are the most popular holiday destinations of Vorpommern. Numerous marinas along the coast provide a unique maritime atmosphere.
The Hanseatic cities of Stralsund and Greifswald form with a total of 112’000 inhabitants the centre of the region. Stralsund is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002. Other smaller cities, which are noteworthy are Anklam, Wolgast and Ueckermünde.
